Magdalene’s love for arts began in her childhood in Mukah. Her distinctive style using symbols and signs as subjects sets the artist apart from others in Sarawak. A graduate of the National Art School of Sydney in Fine Arts and Printmaking, Tai held solo shows in 1991 and 2003 at the Dewan Tunku Abdul Razak and the Sarawak Library in Kuching. Tai has actively participated in group exhibitions, both locally and internationally since 1967.
