About The Exhibition
Through the Canvas, Across the Sea is a captivating showcase of artistic narratives, cultural dialogues and creative explorations by 5 established West Malaysian artists — Dato’ Chong Hon Fatt, Lee Choon Kooi, Loo Hooi Nam, Tham Siew Moi and Voon Kim Cheong.
Transcending geographical boundaries, the exhibition brings together diverse perspectives as well as offers a meaningful dialogue exchange between West Malaysia and East Malaysia through the language of art. Each artist navigates themes of identity, memory, heritage, and the fluidity of cultural landscapes, using the canvas as an instrument to traverse personal and collective histories.
With a deep appreciation for conservation, the exhibition highlights heritage, life and iconic landmarks via canvas — capturing emotion, warmth and depth in a way that surpasses the capabilities of modern digital imagery.
Through bold strokes, fascinating textures, and thought-provoking compositions, the exhibition invites audiences to embark on a visual journey across land and sea—bridging differences, celebrating commonalities, and fostering a deeper appreciation for Malaysia’s artistic dynamism.
